Free Range Kids

Hi everyone,

I heard Lenore Skenazy from New York being interviewed on National Radio this week and felt so inspired. Personally, Tony and I have had a tendency to be a bit over protective of Joe(9 yo) and Sarah(9 yo) in the past but we are getting there! About 6 months ago we let Aliah go to the shops by herself forgetting to give her a time limit, an hour later she returned (we had been mentally biting our nails for a few minutes by this time) and was proud as punch! Bit by bit we are letting her get “out there”. Sarah still needs a bit of work with her road crossing so we need to work on that independence in other environments (where there isn’t a road to cross).
