Learn preserving and bottling at the Grey Lynn Farmers’ Market
This is your opportunity to learn the age-old art of preserving and get your shelves full of beautiful bottled fruit, jams and conserves, pickles and chutneys.
This 3-class course will teach you everything you need to know to start stocking your own shelves, making gifts or simply feeding your family with healthy homemade goodness. It is taught by local food writer Lisa Loveday, author of the New Zealand Pressure Cooker Cookbook.
Bottling – Sunday 11th March Learn how to bottle fruits using waterbath, overflow and oven techniques. This class will discuss the merits of each and cover practical examples.
Jams and Fruit Conserves -Sunday 18th March This class covers how to make the perfect jam and fruit conserve. Learn how to test for setting point, how to manage pectin and how to prevent common mistakes.
Pickles and Chutneys – Sunday 1st April Learn how to make delicious and decorative pickled vegetables and how to make a vegetable chutney. We will discuss the pros and cons of different recipes and what can go wrong.
All classes start at 11.15am in the Oval Room of the Grey Lynn Community Centre
Course costs: $30 ($25) for all 3 classes or $12 ($10) per class (discounted for Friends of the Market)
