Launch of Grey Lynn & West Lynn going Plastic Bag FREE from 1 July 2018
This year, Grey Lynn Waste Away (GLWA) and the Grey Lynn Business Association (GLBA) joint in the goal of realizing the vision of Grey Lynn becoming a plastic bag free zone. Much work has proceeded this final push; and we are nearly there!
In June, we did a survey to determine how businesses are using plastic bags and their barriers to changing to being plastic bag free. In understanding the barriers, we are able to assist and support businesses and the community to reduce the use of plastic bags in Grey Lynn.
On 1 st July we held the launch event at the Grey Lynn Community Centre, together with Denise Roche from the Waitemata Local Board and Jacob Faull, Co-Chair of the GLBA. The Origami paper bin liner workshop with Miharu Anzawa and her family was enjoyed by many, a great way of easing people into reducing the use of plastic bags.
We would like to thank Kokako, Harvest Wholefoods, Nature Baby for spot prizes, and give a shout-out to Karma Cola who looked after our volunteers with their yummy drinks range.
