RePurpose – Trial Resource Recovery Centre

Grey Lynn 2030, together with Earth Action Trust, a migrant led organization based in Mt Roskill, ran a trial Resource Recovery Centre in Onehunga over the last year. Both groups are passionate about waste reduction and secured funding through the Waste Minimation Fund in order to set up the centre and gain some hands on experience in the waste recovery sector.

During the trial period, which finished at the end of June, we have managed to divert 10.8 tonnes of waste from landfill. Around 5 tonnes of product was sold through the second hand shop, with the rest being donated to various organizations as the end of the trial. We have also had the opportunity to explore some upcycling initiatives. This short video was created to share our learnings with other groups looking to enter this sector.

We encourage you to look at Resource Recovery Centres and second hand shops, especially with Christmas around the corner. You’ll be amazed at the treasures you can find.
