Stewart Forsyth – Pollinator Paths and Predator Free Grey Lynn
Stewart Forsyth stands as a driving force behind Predator Free Grey Lynn. As the local community trapping coordinator, he is deeply involved in the ongoing mission to rid the Grey Lynn and Arch Hill areas of introduced predators like rats and possums.
At its heart, Predator Free Grey Lynn aims to safeguard and enrich native bird and plant life. By removing predatory threats, the initiative paves the way for native species to flourish, directly bolstering vital pollinator populations.
The group’s origins trace back to a proactive session organized by Tejo Van Schie and Stewart at the Malt Bar, sparking the formation of a local trapping collective. This early effort soon merged with the broader Predator Free Grey Lynn movement, leading to focused action within the Hakanoa Reserve.
For Stewart, the reward lies in witnessing the increasingly frequent sights and sounds of native birds and insects, coupled with the fulfilling opportunity to collaborate with his neighbors in fostering a more biodiverse Grey Lynn.
His dedication extended to the Pollinator Path at Hakanoa St, where he was a key contributor. These pollinator paths are essential for sustaining healthy ecosystems and plant biodiversity by offering crucial food sources and habitats for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. The reduction of predators creates a favorable environment for native pollinator populations to expand, while the establishment of pollinator paths provides the necessary resources for their success. This synergy creates a powerful cycle that enhances the local environment’s overall health and resilience.
Stewart warmly welcomes new volunteers. Whether you’re interested in assisting with trapping, weeding, or planting, you can reach out to him at stewart.forsyth@gmail.com.
Thanks to Stewart for his contributions to ecological restoration and the enhancement of biodiversity in Grey Lynn.
