We are celebrating all the positive things going on in our community with a week long programme of events. Regular Grey Lynn features such as the Farmers Market are included together with exciting new activities and a local approach to marking the international World Water Day and Earth Hour. A highlight of the week is the West Lynn Street Party & Twilight Market on Thursday 25th March.
There is something for everyone – all happening locally.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Event: Grey Lynn Farmers Market
We launch the start of the Grey Lynn 2030 week with water aware ideas for saving water and money in our urban environment.
Check out Laurie Dee’s rain harvesting demonstration at 10am and Trevor Carpenter with Autogro, a self watering kit-set garden.
Eion Scott, Auckland City Council’s eco design advisor will be on hand from 10 -12pm to answer questions about eco-friendly water devices for the home.
Plus as always, you’ll find lots of fresh fruit and veges, and other quality
foods to stock up for the week ahead. Your excess garden produce can be sold at the Ooooby stall!
Bring the kids along for Phineas Phrogg STORYTIME show in the Oval Room at 10.30am, for only $3 (or $2 for Grey Lynn Farmers Market Members)
Musical entertainment will be provided by the Longdrops. Another good reason to make a morning of a visit to our local market.

Event: Wilton Street Community Gardens Tour
Come and check out what a group of neighbours have achieved on a vacant lot. You are also welcome to help out in the garden or just hear the Gardeners provide advice on how to set up a community garden (and how Grey Lynn 2030 can provide financial support)
Where: Wilton Street (behind the Gypsy Tea Room)
When: 11am – 12pm
Gathering in and Mellowing Down. Join the celebration on this day when light and dark are in equal parts. We are pausing to take the opportunity to gather the gifts of the season past that will be strength for us as we move toward winter. It is good to take time to receive all that autumn offers to us.
This year we will also be celebrating the hope and dream of Grey Lynn 2030. This group works on our behalf toward a sustainable future. During the celebration we will build of a cairn and spend time in the gardens which include the Grey Lynn Community Garden.
Susan Adams, the vicar, will lead us through a time to think about the signs and symbols and gifts of this season which many of us almost miss.

Monday 22nd
Event: Tapped the Movie 
In recognition of World Water Day, Grey Lynn 2030 together with EcoMatters Environment Trust and the support of Oxfam and TAPAC are pleased to present an exclusive screening of Tapped the Movie.From the producers of Who Killed the Electric Car this timely documentary is a behind-the-scenes look into the unregulated and unseen world of the water industry.
“With style and nerve and righteous anger, the film exposes the bottled water industry’s role in suckering the public, harming our health, accelerating climate change, contributing to overall pollution, and increasing America’s dependence on fossil fuels. All while gouging consumers with exorbitant and indefensible prices”

Tickets: $10 unwaged and students. $15 waged. Door sales only. Please come early. The Garnet Station bar & cafe at TAPAC will be open from 6.30pm for refreshments.
All proceeds from the movie will be donated to Oxfam’s Water for Survival programme in the Pacific.
Also check out what Oxfam are up to for World Water Day with the Corporate Water Challenge. Plus proceeds from a song from the holiwater project (sold on line at Amplifier) will be donated to Oxfam New Zealand.
Join us on a tour to discover the amazing art being created locally in a number of artist’s studios tucked away in Grey Lynn & Westmere . Artists are in residence and the visits are interactive. Meet each of the artists in their studio while you are surrounded by their creative pieces.
On both the morning and the afternoon tours you will visit 3-4 different artists. Reserve your place for either morning or afternoon tour or both for “total artistic immersion”and join us for a lunch stop at one of our local cafes: Monterey, Savour & Devour, Jafa, or the Richmond Road Cafe.

Event: Art Studios Tour

Drop in for an introduction to meditation on the hour between 10 and 2pm. There will also be someone at the Centre during the day (10.30am to 4pm) through out the week to welcome visitors with refreshments.

Event: Tour of Kelmarna Organic City Farm
A fantastic opportunity to experience first hand a local centre of organic vegetable and fruit production which has been tucked away in a stunning spot between Grey Lynn and Herne Bay since 1981 . Bring the kids to check out the chooks at the farm and meet local bee keeper Carol Downer.

Saturday 27th
Event: Walking tour of backgarden chooks
A leisurely walking tour of gardens in Grey Lynn where chickens are being happily raised as pets and for fabulous eggs
