The Grey Lynn Business Association (GLBA) originated in 2010 from a casual gathering of Grey Lynn 2030 members, primarily small local business owners seeking networking opportunities.

Initially known as the Grey Lynn Sustainable Business Association, these Friday night gatherings were a great way to meet other local business people.

Driven by the shared vision of its Grey Lynn 2030 members, the group quickly evolved into an incorporated society, fueled by the energy, skills, and growing numbers of participants.

Dedicated local business professionals volunteered their time to both develop their own enterprises and contribute to the community.

As membership expanded and transitioned to a paid model, the GLBA was able to employ a coordinator. This facilitated increased collaboration with businesses and community stakeholders, ensuring ongoing improvements to the neighborhood while promoting economic growth, social harmony, and environmental stewardship.

The GLBA's mission is to support and promote the vitality, prosperity, and sustainability of businesses and communities within Grey Lynn and its surrounding areas.

March 2025 Update:

After years of dedicated volunteer work by its committee, the GLBA is nearing the significant milestone of becoming a Business Improvement District (BID), securing guaranteed funding from local businesses.

The Auckland Council's Business Improvement District (BID) program fosters partnerships with business associations to enhance the local business environment and stimulate regional economic growth. This program establishes a formal relationship between the council and independent business associations.
