In 2012 there was much interest in the Auckland Council Unitary Plan. Grey Lynn 2030 formed GLUE - Grey Lynn Urban Environment Group  (clever name).  GLUEs focus was urban environment and design.

At the same time another group formed with the main focus of heritage preservation.

Eventually the people in the groups joined forces and the Grey Lynn Residence Association became a single commuity voice.

About Grey Lynn Residents Association (GLRA)

Established in 2013, the Grey Lynn Residents Association (GLRA) initially focused on heritage preservation and providing community input into the Auckland Council Unitary Plan.

In 2025, the GLRA committee, eight dedicated members, who meet bi-monthly at the Grey Lynn Returned Services Club.

Each committee member brings unique skills, interests, and local knowledge to their specific focus areas, ensuring representation for our Grey Lynn community.

2025 We owe significant gratitude to David Batten and Brandon Wilcox, who spearheaded the community-led vision for the revitalisation of Great North Road, spanning from Ponsonby Road to Surrey Crescent shops. This transformative project is now underway, with progress updates available through Auckland Transport’s website.

Auckland Transport (AT) is delivering walking, cycling and bus improvements along Great North Road, from Ponsonby Road to near Crummer Road, ending before Grey Lynn village. The changes make the street safer for all users, especially those walking or cycling.
